The Prairie Provinces are full of surprises – but some are way cooler than others. This summer, beat the heat at Horseshoe Lake, a crystal-clear swimming hole in Jasper National Park, Alberta – known to few, but loved by all.

Although it is important to exercise caution during your stay, this magnificent destination is definitely worth a visit in this sunny season.

Surrounded by towering cliffs, green trees, and mountain views, Horseshoe Lake is a tranquil oasis perfect for lounging — diving, however, is another story.

While it might sound like an adrenaline seeker’s dream, jumping off the overhanging rocks is not recommended due to its deceptively shallow pockets of water – although tempting.

Conference aside, there really is magic at the bottom of this lake, especially on the hottest days.

To get to the Horseshoe Lake watering hole, here’s what you need to know!

Once in Jasper, follow Highway 93 south until you come to the Horseshoe Lake Trail – it will take you about half an hour. Once there, walk in the wooded area in front of the parking lot for about 1.5 km – this is where you will find the ideal place for the summer.

It really is bliss, so pick a weekend, hit the hills and enjoy Alberta.
