Exploring the Cannabis Retail Store Landscape in Canada
Canada has 3,400 cannabis retail stores open and another 111 planned by the start of 2023. According to Health Canada, you will find a dispensary in every province and territory! Here’s a quick breakdown of how the country is sprouting opportunities in the cannabis industry from coast to coast.
Number of dispensaries in each province and territory
As of October 26, 2022, the Northwest Territories has six stores and mail-order sales at participating liquor stores. The Yukon Territory has six, and Nunavut holds Fort with its solo operation of NunaCannabis.
The maritime region has four dispensaries in Prince Edward Island, 26 in New Brunswick, 40 in Newfoundland and Labrador and 45 in Nova Scotia. Around a boot, only three cities in New Brunswick have more than one authorized retailer. These are Frederickton, Moncton and Saint John.

Then we have the industry beast to the east. Ontario has nearly 2,000 cannabis retail stores listed at Alcohol Gaming Commission of Ontario. Quebec pinned 90 locations and is among the top five Canadian provinces with the most dispensaries.
The Prairie Provinces still follow similar mixes and trends to the others. Saskatchewan’s Liquor & Gaming Authority has authorized 161 stores to open. Meanwhile, the Liquor, Gaming and Cannabis Authority of Manitoba has issued 169 retail licenses.
Finally, the sun sets in the west where all the cannabis continues to bloom. BC operates a dynamic pioneer system between the licensed area and the medical gray area, but has approximately 420 stores. Alberta Gaming, Liquor & Cannabis has listed 967 licensed retail sites and includes affiliated provincial retail chains.

Popular cannabis retail stores to explore
The City of Winnipeg is a home for Manitoba cannabis retail stores. This bowl is packed with a hybrid regulation model and a crossover of retail store options. The big retail chains like Canna Cabin consistently offer great deals while opening several new locations across the city and across Canada.
To be honest, I’m a big softy for the smaller Ma ‘n Pa players in the Canadian cannabis market. I dig how the crew to Give and receive in Medicine Hat, Alberta, launches and manages a tight brand marketing game. A few other places I bought drugs in Manitoba are Cannabis & Vape Shop Pot Life, CanaCity dispensaryand CJ’s Cannabis and Wellness.
No matter where you are, there will most likely be a dispensary that will meet your needs. The industry also continues to grow, so all of your niche cannabis needs may be arriving at a store near you very soon.
