Miawpukek First Nation Signs Memorandum of Understanding for Southwest Coast Hydrogen Project – Canada
Miawpukek First Nation signs Memorandum of Understanding for Hydrogen Project on Southwest Coast – Canada.
The Prime Minister and German Chancellor both hinted at agreements already signed at the Atlantic Hydrogen Expo in Stephenville.
One such memorandum of understanding is between the Miawpukek First Nation and an Australian company for a hydrogen project on the southwest coast.
It would be developed in and around the Port aux Basques, St. George’s and Stephenville areas, producing nearly one million tonnes of green ammonia per year.
Chief Misel Joe called Miapukek’s inclusion in green energy projects “historic and transformative” and the cooperation in the spirit of reconciliation.
He says this means indigenous peoples are moving in the right direction, despite the long, difficult and difficult path so far.
Miawpukek First Nation is also working with two other green energy developers, Red Earth Energy and Source Energy, on green hydrogen wind power projects at three other sites on the island.
