Statement by the Prime Minister on Canadian Armed Forces Day

OTTAWA (ON), June 5, 2022 /CNW/ – The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeauissued the following statement today on the occasion of Canadian Armed Forces Day:

“Today, we honor and recognize members of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) who demonstrate unwavering courage, sacrifice and selflessness every day they wear uniform. Here at home and around the world, they embody the values ​​we hold dear: peace, freedom and democracy.

“There are approximately 2,000 CAF members who are currently deployed in nearly 20 different operations across Canada and all over the world, including providing humanitarian aid to Ukrainians Poland who were moved by Russia illegal invasion of their country. A total of approximately 1,400 CAF members are participating in Operation REASSURANCE as part of our multi-year commitment to support ongoing North Atlantic Treaty Organization assurance and deterrence measures in central and Eastern Europe in response to Russian aggression in the region.

“Canadians in uniform are always ready to help our communities when we need it most. As record heat waves, wildfires and flooding continue to increase due to climate change, proud CAF members will continue to step up to protect our Last year, the CAF provided assistance from emergency, protected Canadians from extreme weather events, and supported affected communities and critical infrastructure. Since the start of the pandemic, they have assisted in long-term care facilities and seniors’ residences and provided support to federal, provincial and territorial governments to distribute COVID-19 vaccines.
