SVG THRIVE Launches New Venture Academy and Studio


Alberta Innovates, PrairesCan and SVG Ventures|THRIVE
Launch a $3 million technology pre-accelerator

OLDS, ALBERTAAugust 10, 2022SVG Ventures|THRIVE (THRIVE), in partnership with Alberta Innovates and PrairiesCan, announces the launch of THRIVE Academy and THRIVE Venture Studio, which support entrepreneurs, researchers, innovators, start-ups and spin-off companies in the agri-food technologies.

THRIVE Academy offers hands-on training and access to test sites such as Olds College Smart Farm and other applied research opportunities to validate ideas at an early stage. The program starts in September with the first cohort of 15 participants. The program will rotate between sites in Alberta over the three-year funding period.

Alongside THRIVE Academy, SVG Ventures is set to launch THRIVE Venture Studio. This unique business builder model will focus on creating new businesses in response to some of the most pressing issues in the agrifood value chain. SVG Ventures|THRIVE will leverage its strong relationships with farmers and industry to identify these opportunities, find founding teams and make seed investments in these agri-tech ventures. THRIVE is currently accepting applications for this program.

Enabling THRIVE to establish THRIVE Academy and THRIVE Venture Studio is a $3 million investment from Alberta Innovates. Additional federal funding of $700,000 has been provided to Olds College through PrairiesCan to support THRIVE Academy in Western Canada. The continuum of services offered by SVG Ventures provides end-to-end commercialization support to Alberta agribusinesses.

THRIVE Academy and THRIVE Venture Studio are a collaboration between Alberta Innovates, Alberta Jobs, Economy and Innovation, Prairie Economic Development Canada (PrairiesCan), Olds College and SVG Ventures|THRIVE . This partnership is part of Scaleup GAP managed by Alberta Innovates.
