The UBCO Heat women’s golf team won silver at the 2021 Canada West Championships on Tuesday, October 5th.
This is the second year that the team has competed in the conference championship. They improved on their fifth place from 2019 by clocking a par 462 of 30 over two days to finish second this year. The full results can be viewed here.
It is also the second time that a Heat program has won a Canada West silver medal, following in the footsteps of the 2015-16 women’s volleyball team.
“I couldn’t be prouder of the way we played,” said Heat head coach Clay Stothers. “They managed to overcome the difficult conditions and were able to prove to themselves that they are one of the best teams in Canada. “
Vernon’s Kendra Jones-Munk led the way for the Heat this year. Jones-Munk was seventh at the conference championships as she shot an eight over par 152.
She was joined in the top 10 by Emily Cornwall, who was ninth to 12 on par 156, and Kayleigh Trowman, who was tied for 10th at 13 on par 157.
Rebecca Reitsma of Kelowna and Sam Copeland finished 15th and 16th respectively.
The Heat will continue their season this weekend when they host the Battle at the Bear at Okanagan Golf Club. The event will feature all the women’s and men’s teams that competed at the Canada West Championships. The event will take place on Sunday October 10 at 12:30 p.m. The final round will begin on Monday, October 11 at 8:30 a.m.
